What is a Camporee?
A Camporee is a gathering of multiple local or regional Scouting groups for a camping event, sometimes called a mini-Jamboree. Jamborees are usually a week-long regional, national or international camp.
The Carleton Camporee invites participation from Groups across Voyageur Council to experience a traditional Scout Camp. It is organized by an Event Team, with representatives from each attending section. Much like a Potluck dinner, each of the attending Sections contributes a game or activity developed and tested with their youth. This provides many activities for the youth participants.
The Event Team and attending sections determine a theme and camp crest, which is incorporated into the activities and costumes.
Where do I park with my Car? All cars park in the Scout Reserve's main parking lot. No cars will be parked at your section's campsite. See Arrival.
Where are the Cub and Beaver Campsites? Deer Field, Pond Field and Cabin Field. See Map & Services.
Where do the Scouts and Venturers Camp? Longfields
How do I find my Group or section? Check with your Contact Scouter, so you know what Group and section your child is a member of. Scouters: Remind parents what Group and section their children are part of so that they can find you. You will be directed at the Check-In tent to your section's campsite.
What should my child pack? Guidance is found at What to Pack.
Does our site have picnic tables? Yes.
Can we bring Portable (wood) Fire Pits? No.
Can we bring Propane Fire Bowls? Propane appliances that are used at Camporee for cooking are permitted. Propane appliances not used at Camporee for cooking (e.g. used at Camporee only for warmth), are not permitted.
Can we bring Camping Trailers? Trailers for accommodation are greatly discouraged, and only allowed with the permission of the Camp Committee. To obtain permission, contact the camp committe at camporee@gckevents.ca
Is there a First Aid site? : Yes. Location TBD
Can Non-Members attend? Yes they can! See Non-Members
Can our section attend just for the daytime? Our focus at Camporee is a 2-night weekend event. The Event Team has previously considered sections attending without camping, but have decided against.
My Group is not located in former Carleton Area, can we register? Yes, Groups outside of former Carleton Area are welcome to attend.
What is the overall cost of attending camp? Overall cost varies depending upon expenses that are not part of the Camporee fee. Each section creates a budget for the event, which allows it to determine a fee for its members, by including food, fuel and consumables, travel expenses, sundries, and the camp's registration fee (including for volunteers).
Can a Beaver sleep in a tent with (only) their parent? Maybe. See Camp Rules - Section Campsite Facilities.
Can we have a member arrive or depart during the event? Yes. The Event Team must be made prior to the event, and they can direct you where departure and arrivals can occur. See Arrival for details.
Are there any food restrictions? Carleton Camporee is a nut-free event.
Where can I find a list of what's on this site? See the Site Index.
